A two day Kyorugi Development Competition was held on the 20th and 21st of March. The event saw 26 fighters, from 8 to 15 year olds participate, with a total of 42 matches taking place. Members were split into five groups with 8 and 9 year olds doing 3 rounds of 1 minute and the remaining groups 3 rounds of 1 minute 30 seconds, all with a 30 second rest interval. A double elimination competition format was used which eliminated fighters upon having lost two matches.
All registered fighters, some of which was their first sparring event ever, stepped into the ring. An achievement in itself. Furthermore, it was evident there was plenty of heart and courage on display, a key aspect to any fighter. It was also refreshing to see a variety of kicks showcased, and coaching advice taken onboard. An event which has no doubt been a great experience and success for the development of our members.

Finally, without teamwork this event would simply not be possible. Firstly, thank you to Lorena Garcia (4th Dan) for organizing the event, to Brandon Avellano (2nd Dan), Frederick Martin (2nd Dan), Master Edward and Ernest Garcia (7th Dan), Megan Ruiz (2nd Dan), Karissa Garcia, Aidon Garcia, Leon Garcia (1st Dan), and Dana Garcia (2nd Dan) for their contributions; from helping the fighters put on their protectors, to refereeing, to coaching, to scoring.
