Medals at British Nationals & Re-Election to the GB Poomsae Squad

This past weekend a team from Gibraltar participated at the British Taekwondo National Poomsae Championships in Crawley, achieving great results. The championships received top athletes including Commonwealth, European and World medalists and received approximately 450 players from throughout the UK, in different categories.

The first of our players to compete was Macy Cornelio. This took place on Saturday. Macy is in the K1 Cadet Female division and her first competition of the day was that of the synchronised team, where she teamed up with two girls from within her same division, achieving Bronze medal. Later that same day Macy competed in the individual's category where she achieved 6th place.

On Sunday morning it was the turn of Megan Ruiz. Megan's division is the A Class/Dan U17 Female. At 9.30am her individual's category was up. With a total of 16 participants in her category, the first round was the semi-finals and only 8 would qualify for the finals. Megan managed to get through this and achieved Bronze medal. Later that same day Megan teamed up with two players from within her same division and the three competed as a team in the synchronised category, achieving Silver medal.

Both Megan and Macy received letters from British Taekwondo, confirming their re-election to the GB Poomsae Squad. Their coach Master Ernest Garcia is immensely proud of their dedication, commitment and passion towards Taekwondo and it is because of this that they are achieving these magnificent results. The girls will continue to train at the highest level possible, and are looking forward to further their development to attend international championships in the very near future. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the event organisers for their hospitality and to congratulate them for such a great event.
